About
A villa overlooking Lake Maggiore returns to its essence through a careful restoration that preserves its brutalist spirit while opening it up to new perspectives. Surrounded by dense woodland, the structure reinterprets raw concrete as a living material shaped by light and softened through its relationship with the landscape.
Spread across three levels and 350 square meters, the interior is reorganized starting from the ground floor, where kitchen, dining and living areas are reconnected through a new spatial layout. A glazed volume extends into the garden, framing a long table that becomes both a visual anchor and a threshold between inside and out. The central fireplace links the rooms and introduces a quiet domestic rhythm.
Wood flooring alternates with exposed concrete, creating a continuous dialogue between warmth and severity. Custom-designed seating elements echo the modular structure and absorb its geometries. The staircase to the lower level curves gently, a gesture that also reappears at the entrance, softening the more rigid lines of the original architecture.
Below ground, a former utility area is transformed into a secluded retreat dedicated to rest and reflection. A sauna, bar and games room unfold in sequence, alternating natural light with shaded volumes. The top floor houses the sleeping area, where inclined ceilings and generous openings reframe the landscape. One of the bedrooms features a large cantilevered window, projecting into the trees and blurring the boundary between interior and forest.
The palette is muted, focused on light pigments that diffuse sunlight throughout the rooms. Treated concrete retains its material depth while integrating seamlessly with natural finishes. Vintage furnishings, sparse yet intentional, introduce a narrative element that recalls the homeās past. Outside, the redesigned roof completes the intervention without disrupting the overall balance. A project that reconnects, enhances and quietly transforms.
